22 Day Southern Africa Luxury Safari

DAY 1

Arrive Johannesburg airport where you are met by your Getaway Tours guide. Transfer to Thanda Nani Game lodge in the Lowveld. Lunch at the lodge, leisure afternoon. (LDBB)

DAY 2

Early breakfast before departing on a game drive, return midday for lunch. Leisure afternoon before departing for the Swazi cultural village with the Swazi dancers, Dinner at the village. (LDBB)

DAY 3

Depart after breakfast for Kruger, game viewing on way to overnight camp in Kruger. (DBB)

DAY 4

Visit the elephant museum at Letaba, where the tusks of the greatest bulls of Kruger are on display, game viewing all day. Night drive with dinner in the bush included. Overnight Kruger. (DBB)

DAY 5

Early morning game drive through Kruger on our way to Thanda Nani. Lunch at Thanda Nani; relax before departing on afternoon sunset game drive on Thanda Nani, encountering herds of rhino, buffalo and the rare sable and roan antelope. (LDBB)

DAY 6

Early breakfast before leaving for the Blyde river canyon and Gods window. Lunch at Harries-Pancakes; visit the African silk shop in Graskop before departing for Johannesburg. Overnight Johannesburg. (BB)

DAY 7

Breakfast before departing from Johannesburg Airport for flight to Windhoek in Namibia with your Getaway Tours guide. From here you depart for Solitaire lodge in the Namib Desert via the spectacular Spreetshoogte pass with breathtaking views over the Namib. Overnight Solitaire. Dinner at the lodge.(BB)

DAY 8

Early depart for Sossusvlei and the Dune Sea, one of the wonders of Namibia. We visit and also climb these extraordinary dunes, some over 300m high! Here is also the optional hot air balloon flight! Highly recommended! From here we depart for the town of Swakopmund on the Atlantic coast via the Kuiseb canyon and the Namib Desert, we might also see the elusive Hartmanns mountain zebra that lives in the Namib. Overnight Swakopmund. (BB)

DAY 9

Today we visit Swakopmund for shopping and optional activities, quad biking over the sand dunes, boat cruises etc. Dinner in town. (BB)

DAY 10

We depart Swakop and head inland for Okonjima and the Africat foundation. Lunch at Okonjima. The afternoon we will do a walk and look for the cheetah, we might also spot wild dog. Overnight Okonjima lodge. (LDBB)

DAY 11

This morning we head off on a game drive to find the leopard of Okonjima.  After breakfast we leave Okonjima and head north to visit a Himba village. Here we will see how these people still live according to their age old customs, where the woman still paint their bodies with red ochre. From there we depart for Toshari lodge near Etosha. Dinner at Toshari lodge. (DBB)

DAY 12

Early depart for the Etosha National Park, day game viewing, overnight Okaukeujo camp in Etosha. (DBB)

DAY 13

Breakfast then another day game viewing, we overnight again at Okaukeujo camp. Tonight we can view animals at the waterhole, only a few meters from the fence! (DBB)

DAY 15

Early depart for our meeting with the Bushman people, we walk with them through the bush while they show us there age old bush skills. Before departing they entertain us with there dancing, we then head back to camp for a brunch and then depart for Mazambala lodge on the Kwando river in the Eastern Caprivi. This is the area between Angola and Botswana. This area resembles a mini delta and is the route the elephant are taking on their migrations to Angola and Zambia. Also in this area are wild dog, sable, roan with elephant, lion buffalo and leopard. (DBB)

DAY 16

Breakfast then a morning boat trip through the canals before returning to camp. Afternoon game drive in the Caprivi game park, dinner at the lodge. (DBB)

DAY 17

Early breakfast before we leave the Kwando river and head east back to Botswana and through the Chobe national Park to Chobe safari lodge. Afternoon boat cruise on the Chobe river game viewing. (DBB)

DAY 18

Early morning game drive in the Chobe national park, return for breakfast. Transfer to Kasane airport, here we depart on a Botswana air flight to Maun and then transfer by boat for a 3hr trip to our lodge deep in the Okavango Delta overlooking Chiefs island in the Moremi National park (DBB). Those not going to Moremi stay at Chobe safari lodge, leisure afternoon.

DAY 19

Early depart with the Mokoros to Chiefs Island, here you will go on a game walk in the Moremi National Park. We return for lunch at the lodge before departing the afternoon again for a boat trip game viewing up the river. Dinner at the camp. (LDBB) Clients staying at Chobe have a leisure day with optional game drives or boat cruise. (DBB)

DAY 20

Early depart with the Mokoros to Chiefs Island again for another game walk! Return to camp for brunch and then depart with a flight from camp back to Kasane with a flight over the amazing Okavango Delta, here we meet at Chobe safari lodge with our remaining guests and transfer to Vic Falls hotel in Zimbabwe. Afternoon visit to the falls and the craft markets, also optional helicopter flight over the falls. Optional dinners at the hotel or at the Boma restaurant. (BB)

DAY 21

Early departure for the Walk with Lions (optional extra). Optional elephant back safari, leisure afternoon. Dinner at the hotel. (BB)

DAY 22

Leisure morning before flight back to JNB.
